The Mother of God “Sweet Kissing”

The icon of the Mother of God “Glykophilousa” (also called “Sweet Kissing” or “Loving Kindness”) was written for custom order in June 2018.
We would like to share pictures of the process of the writing of the icon.

Icon of the Mother of God “Sweet Kissing”  

Size of the icon of the Mother Of God is 20×26 cm. Written on the wood board with a cut-back.

Background and frame are covered with a leaf gold.

The main paint layer is applied to the white-black draft.

Then the artist writes the most important strokes of clothing.

On the next stage faces of the Virgin Mary and Christ Child are written.

Final step is to cover the icon with a couple of layers of the protecting varnish.

Icon of the Mother of God “Glykophilousa” (“Sweet Kissing”) and icon of the Jesus Christ Pantocrator in a Greek Style.

“Glykophilousa” Icon of the Mother of God and icon of the Jesus Christ Pantocrator often called as a Wedding Pair of icons. This set of two icons used a symbol of blessing a new couple. Wedding icons could be presented by parents or be ordered by bride and groom.

The Last Supper. The Icon For An Iconostasis.

The Last Supper handwritten icon. October 2017.

The icon “The Last Supper” was written for a custom order for an Orthodox Temple in Ukraine. This icon was made for an iconostasis.

This fact explains the size of the orthodox icon – 80×140 centimeters or 31×55 inches.

The Last Supper icon was written in a Byzantine technique. Background and halos were covered with a leaf gold (made in Italy).
